The World Trade Center is ready to be named as New York's tallest building. The World Trade Center will surpass the Empire State Building, tallest building in New York since September 2011. The building, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill will stand at 1,776 feet, to mark the year of US independence.
The steel frame of the building also surpassed 100 stories late last month, according to Port Authority officials. The tower now stands more than 1,240 feet above the ground, and crews are working to finish construction on the structure, which will serve as the tallest such building in North America.
Construction on the tower began in 2006 and is due to be completed next year. View the project timeline.
