Hurricane Sandy

President Obama has declared an state of emergency for New York and Long Island. The major emergency declaration makes federal funding available to help recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy. The funding is available to people in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island and Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Hurricane Sandy recovery assistance is available under the FEMA program and includes grants for housing repairs and loans to cover uninsured property losses. Recovery assistance includes funding for qualifying organizations performing debris removal and emergency protection measures.

FEMA applications can be requested by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
