Safest Building in the World

Fort Knox

Following the horrible tragedy in Friday's deadly shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut, it came to my mind what could be the safest place on Earth? What could be considered the safest building in the globe at this moment? Someone could think that one of the safest building could be the World Trade Center, but no, it isn't. The recognition goes to Fort Knox, the colloquial name for the U.S. Bullion Depository. The place is where the United States keeps much of its gold, protected by a 22-ton blast-proof door. This massive door, has a combination that requires at least 10 different staff members to open it. Every member must enter a portion of the combination so the door could then be opened.

The second place could be shared by two buildings: The Svalsgaard Doomsday Seed Vault and ADX Florence Supermax Prison. The vault contains an underground bunker made of steel and reinforced concrete structure, strong enough to withstand a direct nuclear strike. As for the Prison, it is known that has more than 1,000 remotely-controlled steel lock doors while visibility to the exterior is minimal, only by some small windows located at the building's roof.
