Glossary

Definition: Treated lumber is wood which has been impregnated with pesticides or fire retardent material. The most common type of treatment is with Chromated copper arsentate, or CCA, which produces a characteristic green color. Treated lumber is unsuitable for any project which will come into contact with people, animals, or food.

CCA is currently being phased out in favor of new, safer chemical treatments.
