Definition: ACarpenter is a builder who is involved in a large variety of construction activities. Carpenters assemble, cut, and fit wood and other materials for the construction of buildings, highways, bridges, docks, industrial plants, boats, etc. A Carpenter's duties vary by employer. Typically specialty contractors will hire Carpenters who specialize in one or two activities. Some of these activities are setting concrete forms, erecting scaffolding, or performing finishing work. A general carpenter, often employed by a general building contractor often must perform a variety of construction tasks, such as framing walls and partitions, putting in doors and windows, building stairs, and many other tasks for commercial and residential construction.
