Definition: Hazardous-Materials Removal Workers identify, remove and transport, and dispose of various hazardous materials. These materials are dangerous, and workers must exercise the utmost care in working with materials like asbestos, lead, and radioactive and nuclear materials. The removal of hazardous materials, or "hazmats," from public places and the environment also is called abatement.
