Definition: Plumbers, Pipelayers, Pipefitters and Steamfitters while similiar perform very different duties in the construction industry.

Plumbers install and repair the water, waste disposal, drainage, and gas systems.

Pipelayers lay clay, concrete, plastic, and cast-iron pipe for drains, sewers, water mains, and oil or gas lines.

Pipefitters install and repair high and low-pressure pipe systems used in manufacturing and in the heating and cooling buildings.

Steamfittersare specialized pipefitters who install pipe systems that move liquids or gases under high pressure.

Sprinklerfitters install automatic fire sprinkler systems in buildings.
