Supported scaffold requirements are another important area that needs to be cover by OSHA's standards. This is basic general information not intended to serve as regulation or reference standard.
- Height to base ratio will be less than 4:1. If this cannot be met, then secure scaffold as follows:
- Support inner and outer legs.
- Every 20 feet, at least, vertical ties must be repeated on scaffolds that are 3 feet or less in width. If greater than 3 feet, then repeat every 26 feet.
- If height to base ratio is greater than 4:1, then restrained scaffold by guying, tying or bracing.
- All scaffold frames and uprights should use base plates. If installed on dirt, use mud sills.
- No settling is permitted in the footing and base plates.
- Unstable objects should not be used as work platforms.
- Riggers should be secured and installed correctly.
