Definition: Differential or uneven settlement ocurs when the soil beneath a structure can not bear the weights impossed. The settlement of a structure is the amount that the structure will “sink” during and afer construction. Differential settlements become a big problem when the foundation settles unevenly. The more uneven the settlement is, the greater the problems are to the building's structure.
