Tips On How to Negotiate
• Getting the right information - After giving the employer the request to bargain be sure to follow it up with a written request for information. Management must provide the union with all the information to make intelligent decisions. Failure on the employer's part to provide all reasonable information is an unfair labor practice.• Make the employer bargain -the employer cannot implement the new policies until they have bargained in good faith with the union. It is to our advantage to make them really bargain, spend time on it. Do not let the boss get away without any intention to bargain.
• Do not give the company an excuse to implement the new policies. Sometimes we are tempted to tell the boss where to go and walk out of the meeting. This will give management a chance to declare an impasse, and then implement the changes they want. Always be ready to bargain. While we are bargaining, we can be getting the members involved in expressing their dissatisfaction with the new policies.
